The Ben Myers Ridge-A-Thon at Taos Community Foundation Winter Fund Fest
Taos Community Foundation celebrated 20 years of raising the ridge for community health in 2016 and expanded their event to let participants fundraise directly for nonprofits in the community; whether on the hike-to steeps, on the bunny hill, or in the Bavarian. Traditionally Ridge-A-Thon has raised about $30,000 annually, totaling $575,000 raised over the past 19 years. Then in 2016, the event raised over $100,000 for community health and our local nonprofits.
After 20 years the Ben Myers Ridge-A-Thon has become part of a larger initiative called Taos Community Foundation Winter Fund Fest which seeks to provide a framework of capacity building practices with local nonprofit organizations to market and fundraise while giving them a ready made event platform to get together with their supporters and compete among their peers for victory in the form of grant funding for their projects. Nonprofits build teams to raise funds through our online peer-to-peer fundraising platform toward their performance goals. This on-mountain competition and base area celebration takes place every year at Taos Ski Valley around the third weekend in March.
To help nonprofits get motivated to campaign for their cause, Taos Community Foundation seeks out business and individual donors to offer a match to the funds raised by the nonprofit teams during the campaign and the event. Every one who raises funds or makes a donation as a part of Winter Fund Fest is supporting community health in Taos County.
